The best pies aren’t strictly in Brisbane. They are in Goodna at the SUN HOT BREAD (two doors up from Comm Bank). Baked on the premises, I eat them a lot and cannot match them…..

I’ll second the nomination for Rock ‘n’ Roll Bakery on Logan Rd, Greenslopes.
Big chunks of tender meat, great pastry… they’re awesome!

+1 on Goat Pie Guy. None better.
BTW, Rock N Roll bakery is now called La Campagna folks…try the lamb vindaloo, but they’re all good.
Have a look at The Pieologist blog. That’ll give you a few clues.

Being a South Australian I have to introduce Villi’s pies into the debate. The best pie on the planet, in fact the best pasties as well (but out of scope). The only place I have been able to find them in Brisbane is at our local Puma service station on Bennet’s Road, Norman Park. A pie with a spicy character and a pastry unmatched anywhere.

You are doing the Lord’s work, mate. And the quest will be long and difficult, and fraught with disappointments. I applaud the purist prescription of a beef mince pie, without even sauce. If a baker can’t get that right, no amount of distraction with fancy fillings will make the pastry or baking technique any better. In my opinion, Brisbane is a bit of a black spot in good pie standards, so anything to promote better standards is great.
I see you’ve scored a headline store on the ABC News site this morning. Prepare for a deluge of comment.

Personally I will only eat Goat Pie Guy’s pies now as they have ruined me for all other but my missus insists that Ray’s Patisserie at Taigum Square shopping centre is good. (and the bonus is that they’re only a few kms from Deagon so you can drop by Goat Pie Guy while you’re there)!

Muzza’s at Coorparoo. It used to be run by a grumpy Kiwi bloke who made damn tasty pies. New owners took over seven months ago but have kept the recipe the same. They are spot on. Test a chunky pie. Pepper steak is my favourite.

The bakery at Newmarket shopping centre always used to do amazing pies. Haven’t been there in a while but they were my favourite meal when I still lived close.

I have another local for you that I just found. Petit Four Bakery in West Ashgrove, yet another Vietnamese run bakery like Golden King and Banh Mi so you definitely get great pastry, yet distinctly different to those other two. After you do a plain pie test, if you like the spice then get a Chilli Pie…. Yee-ha it’s a burner!
